What’s in the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 Vaccines?

There’s been a lot of discussion about the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines using messenger RNA (mRNA) technology and what is in the vaccines. Given these vaccines are the first of their kind, mRNA has been studied for more than 10 years. What’s more is the vaccine is completely synthetically developed and doesn’t rely on living cells like chicken eggs, or cultured cell lines.  This means both vaccines do not contain a live or inactivated virus, nor derive from animals or human proteins.
